Hey there!
As I celebrate turning 41, I wanted to share some things that really light up my world. These are the simple joys that make every day a little brighter and remind me of what truly matters in life.
- Dogs - I currently have a Labrador and have had two Labrador ladies in the past. I can't imagine my life without a furry companion by my side. Dogs make my life so much better by enhancing both my physical and mental health through walks, hikes, and a regular supply of oxytocin.
-
Therapy - One of the best things that has happened to me in recent years is therapy. I love talking to my therapist and having those deep conversations. It has helped me immensely in my past.
-
Books - Books have always been a part of my life. We had a huge library at home, and now I have my own.
-
Strolls with My Dog - Regular walks with my dog provide me with essential body movement and fresh air.
-
Solo Adventures Since 2012 - Moving abroad as a single female in 2012 taught me to embark on and enjoy solo adventures. It was quite a process, but it's a skill that can be learned and cherished.
-
Earl Grey with Milk - Although I enjoy coffee, when I need a break, I love a morning cup of Earl Grey with milk. I have been told it´s an unorthodox way because normally people drink Earl Grey with lemon.
-
Birkenstocks - I hope I can wear Birkenstocks forever. They're my go-to shoes for comfort and style.
-
Visiting Austria - I love visiting Austria, both with my dog and alone. The museums and galleries in Vienna are fantastic. Austria is a very dog-friendly country, so Finn and I often go there together.
-
Camping - Camping isn't a new trend for me. It's an activity I genuinely enjoy and have for years.
-
Journaling - Therapy brought journaling back into my life. I used to keep a journal in my youth, but I thought it was just for kids. Now, I love it. Journaling helps me stay calm, focused, and true to myself.
-
Sitting by the Fire - There's nothing quite like sitting by the fire, whether I'm enjoying a glass, reading, or simply staring into the flames and feeling warm.
-
Audiobooks - Audiobooks are a favorite, especially when I'm working on a project or driving. They provide a wonderful escape and entertainment.
-
Favorite Clothes - Jeans and t-shirts have always been my go-to attire, and I'm sure they always will be.
-
Sterling Silver Jewelry - While I wear less jewelry overall, each piece I do wear has been carefully chosen, especially my sterling silver pieces.
-
Photography Books - Photography books are a great inspiration for me. I can spend hours flipping through the pages, immersing myself in the places and people captured through the lens of the photographer.
-
Running - I discovered running for myself last year. While I'm more of a yoga person, sitting for extended periods made me realize the need for another form of physical activity. Running not only keeps me moving but also provides a space for deep thinking that I've come to love.
-
Yoga - I've been practicing yoga for 6-7 years now, and it has been a lifesaver for me. Not only does it help keep my body in shape, but it also allows me to stay calm and centered, something I never expected from a yoga practice.
-
Motorcycles - I've been passionate about motorcycles for almost 20 years. There's nothing quite like the feeling of the wind in my hair while riding. While I don't currently have a bike because I don't feel safe riding alone, I'm sure one day I'll be back on the road.
-
My Skoda Car - I've had my Skoda for 2 years now, and I absolutely love it. It's spacious enough for me and Finn, whether we're going for a car camping adventure or simply heading out for a walk. Its ample space also comes in handy when packing for vacations with lots of luggage.
-
Red Nail Polish - Although I rarely use nail polish because it tends to make my nails unhealthy, when I do, it's always a red one.
-
Grilling - I love to grill, even when I'm alone. Well, Finn is always there, so I'm never truly alone. Sometimes, when my workday ends and I have nothing else to do, I fire up the grill and cook something small. Then I sit there, whether reading or simply enjoying the fire and solitude.
-
Lord of the Rings and Tolkien - Since the release of the old movies, I've been enamored with both the films and the books. I can watch and read them again and again without getting tired of them.
-
Taking Pictures and Videos for Memories - Capturing moments through pictures and videos is something I cherish deeply. Although I often forget to do so, as I may think places and people will be here forever, or I'm just living in the moment and enjoying it, only to realize later that memories fade. But then, I do think about it, and I understand the importance of preserving these fleeting moments, prompting me to take that picture or shoot the video.
-
Candles - I adore candles for the simple warmth and light they provide. Even a small candle can create a cozy atmosphere that I find comforting.
-
Uplifting and Interesting People - I'm drawn to people who keep it simple and bring positivity and interest into my life. Interacting with such individuals always brightens my day.
-
Having Options - I mostly know what I want (or don't want), and I rarely utilize all the options available to me. However, having options signifies freedom to me; it's a necessity. I cannot imagine living without them.
-
Walking Barefoot - After winter, I eagerly anticipate the sensation of walking without shoes and socks. Whether it's at home, on the ground, or in my garden on the grass, the feeling of bare feet on the earth is incredibly refreshing and grounding.
-
Glass of Wine with My Best Friend - My best friend and I have been friends for decades. While many things have changed over the years, some things remain constant, like sharing a glass of wine together.
-
Cozy Blankets - What more can I say? Cozy blankets are an essential comfort in life.
-
The Author Tomáš Halík - Tomáš Halík's books have been a constant presence in my life, from my parents' library to my own. Whenever I need inspiration, upliftment, or deep thoughts, I can always turn to his writings. His books are both timeless and timely, providing meaning and depth even in the most overwhelming of times.
- Barefoot Walk in the Grass - It might sound like a cliché, but to me, it's grounding. Walking barefoot in the grass helps me feel connected to everything—the earth beneath my feet, my body, and my soul. In a world where I used to spend every day in the office wearing uncomfortable shoes, I cherish the moments of freedom and connection that I experience today.
- Lying in the Grass, Under the Trees - There's something incredibly comforting about lying in the grass, under the shade of trees, with a good book in hand. Watching the leaves dance in the wind as I immerse myself in reading is both cozy and soothing, providing a sense of peace and calmness for my mind. I often do this in my yard, where we have old trees that I love to watch.
-
Training with Finn - Training sessions with Finn not only strengthen our bond but also keep both his mind and mine focused. Seeing him happy makes me happy too, and it's a joy to watch our teamwork unfold.
-
Morning Walks - Starting the day with a morning walk alongside Finn is pure bliss for me. It sets the tone for the entire day. Even if I don't feel like waking up early, I always find it worth it. There's something special about the morning sunshine—it sets the hormones for the day and the fresh air invigorates my mind. For Finn, it's beneficial too—regular movement and his routine of "reading the news" along the way.
-
Listening to the Rain - Whether it's the live sound of rain outside my window or an online recording, listening to the rain is like white noise therapy for me. I love it, always. And after a real rain, there's nothing quite like the smell in the air. For me, nothing can beat that.
-
Deep Meaningful Conversations - Deep, meaningful conversations are vital for human beings, plain and simple. I cherish these connections deeply, both in taking care of my loved ones and in needing them for myself.
- Flowers - I often forget about flowers, to be honest. It's such a simple thing. But then, as I'm walking around and wondering why I feel so cheerful, I realize: yes, there are flowers involved.
- Gallery Visits - Whether in person or online, visiting galleries is always a treat for me. Sometimes, I don't have the time or resources to visit a museum or gallery physically. However, I've discovered that an online visit can also work wonders for my mind. Witnessing the beauty of art can lift my spirits, whether it's in person or through a screen. The atmosphere in a live museum is, of course, different—a different vibe, a different story—but I love them both.
- Summer Nights - I'm someone who loves sleep—I enjoy going to bed early and waking up early in the morning. However, there's something truly magical about summer evenings and nights. Perhaps it's the light or the warmth in the air. I find myself drawn to spending time in my yard, whether it's watching a series outdoors or simply breathing in the summer night air and enjoying the moment.
- Cool Autumn Evenings - There's something special about those first evenings after summer, when the temperatures start to dip. Finally, I can pull out my favorite hoodie and sit in my yard, savoring a hot cup of tea. It's a moment of cozy comfort, where I can appreciate the changing seasons and the simple pleasures of life.
- My Freedom - Learning the importance of my freedom has been a journey for me. As a highly sensitive person, I absorb the energy and emotions around me, feeling deeply for others. Through this process, I've come to realize just how vital my need for freedom is. It's the ability to do and feel anything I want, granting me the autonomy to make choices that align with my true self. While I cherish sharing experiences with friends and family, I also value the freedom of not sharing everything—a choice that empowers me. Everything in my life is intertwined with this concept of freedom, and for that, I am truly grateful.
